Why trust matters more than translation
Why Trust Matters More Than Translation
Many organizations want to better serve Hispanic communities. Often, the first step they take is translating their materials into Spanish. While language access is important, translation alone does not create trust.
Trust is built through relationships.
Communities want to know who you are, why you are reaching out, and whether you are committed to serving their needs beyond a single program or initiative. A translated flyer may communicate information, but genuine engagement requires listening, understanding, and showing up consistently.
Over the years, I have worked with individuals, families, entrepreneurs, and organizations throughout Idaho. One lesson remains constant: people are more likely to engage when they feel seen, respected, and valued.
Building trust requires:
Listening before leading
Understanding cultural values and experiences
Partnering with trusted community leaders
Maintaining a consistent presence
Following through on commitments
Organizations that invest in relationships often see stronger participation, better outcomes, and deeper community impact.
At La Jefa Consulting, we help organizations move beyond translation and toward authentic engagement that builds lasting trust and meaningful connections.
Because successful outreach isn't just about speaking the language. It's about understanding the people.
